Hoburne Management Conference – I love my Job!

Julie Robinson – Facilitating at Hoburne Bashley.
Three days facilitating in the beautiful Hoburne Bashley Park in the New Forest. Hoburne invited me back again to project manage facilitating their management conference and accommodated me in a fabulous modern holiday home. In addition to my love of working with teams that want to continually raise the bar I felt honoured to interview Senior Travel Editor, Simon Calder on customer experiences and Sports Coach Dan Hunt, on inspiring individuals and teams to achieve their goals. (Dan was one of the masterminds behind the massively successful Team Sky cycling team).
I helped the Senior Hoburne Team plan the conference and prepare their individual presentations. The Chairman spoke about the history of the brand. I then interviewed the Managing Director on stage who reminded everyone of the Mission Statement and talked about the objectives that are going to help everyone to achieve the mission. He also spoke about potential growth opportunities and the Finance Director provided the up-to date financial performance.
The goal of the Conference was to share and learn how key business objectives could be achieved, including developing the Customer Experience, Team Development and Leadership Development. I interviewed Simon Calder and Dan Hunt to bring an external perspective on customer experience and the impact of customer reviews, leadership and team work.
Dan Hunt’s presentation drew parallels between the mind-set, values and philosophies, determination, and leadership necessary to win in elite sport or business. We learnt more about the concept of marginal gains, (small differences that add up to make big changes). As conference facilitator my role is to ensure that everyone attending gets opportunities to ask questions and respond to the different speakers throughout the conference, make links to company values and objectives and draw out the learning.
Following the presentations and interviews, I facilitated the development and sharing of customer experience maps to identify best practice across the organisation. I then facilitated several team exercises, to capture learning and to develop action plans. We learn as individuals, teams and as a business from events such as these and the learning continues after the conference when managers go away and share their learnings with their teams and put new ideas or lessons learnt into practice. See our facilitation page for more.
